Chiropractic and Gastrointestinal Disorders
Constipation, diarrhea, bloating, gas, irritable bowel, acid reflux, or indigestion can be common problems. While they can be common these symptoms can actually be a healthy response. If these conditions continue on a regular basis then it is not normal, nor healthy. Irritable bowel syndrome is related to inflammation of the bowels and can worsen into Crohn’s disease. These problems often trigger recurring hospital visits and even surgery. Triggers for GI disorders include diet, stress and sometimes infections. Research has indicated that some digestive issues also have a strong neurological component.
At Progressive Chiropractic we have found that patients with GI disorders tend to have subluxations in the thoracolumbar spine. These subluxations can affect the nervous system’s communication with glands, tissues and organs of the digestive system. Chiropractic adjustments corrects or manages subluxations if found. This allows the communication between the brain and what some call the second brain, the gut, to work more normally.
The GI region through the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system is regulated by the viscerosomatic reflex. Proper bowel function can be compromised when there are subluxations within specific areas of the spine. Children and adults who have not had a bowel movement for days experience almost immediate relief after a chiropractic adjustment. Progressive Chiropractic helps patients to have a more normal functioning nervous system which directs comfortable, effortless elimination.
