Answers to Some Commonly Asked Questions

A consultation in person or on the phone is provided as a courtesy and there is no charge. Our New Patient testing runs from $192 to $242. Our New Patient Testing may include if ordered: Digital Structural Photos,Thermography & Electromyography Scans, Heart Rate Variability Scan , Scan Analysis & Reports, and X-Ray analysis. Also included on a second visit is a report of the tests analysis along with recommendations for care and your first adjustment if needed. The fees for your care after that will depend upon you and your individual health care needs.

Your first visit typically lasts an hour.

At your second visit, the doctor will go over all of the what was found from what we gathered on your first visit, making certain that you understand how what you told us about yourself is related to the Neuro scans, Neuro Palpation, Structural photos and x-rays. Your recommendations for your care in our office are explained. If you have insurance we review the information that we verified and how that may help you. If warranted you will receive your first adjustment. We have found it’s important that you understand where you are and that you participate in your care in order to best meet your healthcare goals in our office. Options for payment for your restoration recommendations are given but you are not required to continue. If the doctor believes that we can help you reach your goals and you agree to participate in the recommendations for care, you will be accepted as a practice member and the details to begin your care are taken care of immediately to save you time later on. This visit typically lasts 20-30 minutes.

How often you come in will depend upon you and your individual health care needs. This will be communicated to you when you return on your second visit. It will be based upon the information gathered from your initial tests.

We do participate with some insurances, and submit for all others when appropriate. We verify your benefits and communicate that to you on your second visit.

Dr. Bryan has been in practice since 1996. He opened Ludwig Chiropractic in 1996. He later incorporated the practice and changed the name to Progressive Chiropractic to better reflect the focus on restoring patients to their best possible condition.

A Chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which chiropractors use their hands or a small instrument to apply a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint. The goal of chiropractic adjustment is to correct structural alignment and improve your body’s physical function. An adjustment can only be applied if a subluxation is found. This is different from a manipulation.

The human body possesses a natural ability to restore itself. This ability depends on a healthy nervous system. Life’s events such as birth, poor diet, chemical stresses, accidents, sports injuries, repetitive work, and emotional stress are just some of the factors that can overwhelm the body’s ability to adapt. The joints of the spine can be affected when these sorts of events occur, limiting range of motion. Spinal joint restriction and/or misalignment results in irritation and/or pressure at the spinal nerve.

Chiropractic care can correct these structural distortions and movement abnormalities, known as subluxations, restoring the body to its optimal form and function. Local symptoms of subluxations that you may notice include: pain, tenderness, swelling, tingling, numbness, or spasm around the joints of the spine, back, and neck. Many times these sensations extend further into the shoulders and arms, around the rib cage, or into the hips and down the legs. Subluxations can even lead to headaches, sensory processing disorders, ear infections, vertigo, loss of sleep and/or focus, stomach and digestive problems, and loss of overall health. Many times there may not be any signs or symptoms of a subluxation that you or your medical doctor may recognize. That is why we have very specific in house testing.

Impaired nerve coordination causes the whole body to suffer. Vital instructions flow between the brain and the body by way of spinal nerves. These communications inform and direct the body as to when, where, and how it needs to heal itself. By impairing the function of the nerves, subluxations interfere with the essential brain/body communication, thereby compromising the normal function of the body’s organs and tissues. Progressive Chiropractic restores and protects the path for the body to maintain its own health.

At Progressive Chiropractic we don’t guess we check and test. You can have a subluxation(s) and not know it. Like the early stages of heart disease, tooth decay or even cancer, subluxations can be present for long periods of time without obvious symptoms. The results of thorough chiropractic tests can indicate where and how severe, and how long you have had subluxations. There is only one way to know – Get Checked!

We test, we do not guess. Follow up tests tell us how your bodies structure, brain and nervous system are doing and changing. Sometimes we are testing to see how you are improving, other times to see how to change where you need your adjustments or how often you need them. We can tell if you have hurt a muscle but not the nerves that will direct your healing. In this case you do not need to change your care in the office. If how your nervous system functions has worsened then a change in care is needed. We can test to see if the Progressive protocol has restored you to a normal healing state and ready to be released from that protocol. We can test to see if you are eligible to protect rather that restore the brain body connection, or if you need to return to restoration.

At Progressive Chiropractor we don’t guess we test. We may take x-rays to reveal the internal structure and alignment of the spine including bone anatomy and soft tissues. The shape of your spinal bones tells us the shape of your spinal cord. We are also concerned about underlying disease processes and disorders of the spine such as spinal deterioration, arthritis of the spine, abnormal development, bone spurs, disc disorders, tumors and spinal curvature.

Much the same way a dentist may utilize x-rays, Progressive Chiropractic finds x-rays invaluable in determining the extent of wear, any anomalies in your spine, and other factors that will guide the development of recommendations for care.

Just like adults children have a nervous system, spinal bones. They also have birth and life stresses they must adapt to or get a subluxation. Even more important to children is the normal functioning of their nervous system. The best possible nervous system function for each child is vital to their development as they grow through each milestone. Restoring the nervous system to normal function later as an adult will not replace missing these important development periods.

YES. Chiropractic’s non-surgical, drug-free approach to health places it among the safest of all health care practices. Remember, chiropractic takes nothing out of the body and puts nothing in. As a result, chiropractors enjoy one of the lowest malpractice rates of all health care professionals.

That sound is not your spine “cracking” or “popping” like most people think. That sound is created by gas (in this case, nitrogen) rushing in to fill a partial vacuum that is created when the joints are mobilized. Not all chiropractic adjusting techniques produce this noise. In fact, some adjusting techniques produce no noise at all.

No. Since a chiropractic adjustment is a specific force, applied in a specific direction to a specific joint, it is virtually impossible to adjust oneself correctly and accurately. The purpose of an adjustment is to correct, manage a subluxation. It is possible to turn or bend or twist in certain ways to create a “popping” sound that sometimes accompanies a chiropractic adjustment. The pop produced in this case is not an adjustment, instead it is joint manipulation. Joint manipulation can be counterproductive, often making an already unstable spine even more unstable, and can sometimes be dangerous. Manipulation of a joint may even cause a subluxation. A manipulation does not have the same intent and most of the time does not have the same result as an adjustment.

Yes. We have cared for numerous patients who have had various types of spinal surgeries, or fractures. There may be limitations, changes, restrictions to where, or how a chiropractor will work on you compared to someone without spinal surgery or fractures. Not all chiropractors do the tests or have the skill to take on these cases. It’s an unfortunate fact that approximately half of those who have spinal surgery discover a return of their original problems months or years later. This all too-common occurrence is known as “Failed Back Surgery Syndrome.” Chiropractic adjustments can often help avoid repeated operations. It is important to reduce the spinal decay that often occurs above and below the surgical level with appropriate chiropractic care.

Yes. Chiropractic care is successful with a wide variety of health problems not necessarily considered “back” problems because the focus of chiropractic care is the improvement of nervous system function. While no guarantee can be given that chiropractic will “cure” any specific condition, with a normal nerve supply the body’s natural healing capacity can improve countless health problems.

Yes. Anytime is a good time to improve the functioning of your nervous system. Pregnant mothers find that chiropractic adjustments improve their pregnancy and make delivery easier for themselves and their baby. Not only is chiropractic care safe for a pregnant woman, in some cases it can actually alleviate the headaches, nausea, back pain, leg pain and many other symptoms that are common during pregnancy. Progressive Chiropractic has special adjusting tables designed with an abdominal drop piece specifically for pregnant women. Often we will hear a sigh and be told it has been a long time since they have been able to lay that way comfortably.

Massage offers great benefits in both physical and psychological health. Massage therapy can be a great compliment to chiropractic care, helps to alleviate the harmful effects of stress and encourages healing. Progressive Chiropractic encourages our practice members who use massage to schedule their massage appointments after their chiropractic adjustments. The muscle, lymph and connective tissues will respond normally when you start with a clear, functioning nervous system. A clear, functioning nervous system means that the body is communicating well with itself and can make better use of other healthful components such as massage and good nutrition. Ask us who we use!
